Mark
has played with every possible important Latin jazz group on the
West Coast, such as Pete Escovedo, Que Calor, Bobby Shew, and Poncho
Sanchez. Tito Puente recorded his "Linda Chicana." And
then Nuyorican Soul, a project rather than a band, recorded one
of Mark's compositions, "Shoshana." The CD "has sold
a zillion copies," says the bemused Levine.
Mark's career as a working musician/jazz educator is unique. He
authored "The Jazz Piano Book," which has become the bible
for jazz pianists all over the world. In 1996, he completed "The
Jazz Theory Book," with similar success. Jazz Times named "The
Jazz Theory Book" as the #1 choice in its "recommended
basic jazz library" Mark Levine: Latin jazz and jazz pianist,
composer, arranger, author, educator. Info
