The members of Realistic are proficient on a variety of unusual instrument combinations, which provides a unique visual and aural soundscape: didgeridoo, flute, all four saxophones, electric trombone, six-string bass, electric vibraphone, looped turntables and a efx-processed drum set, to name but a few.
Boomerang phrase samplers and kaos pads are used to spontaneously create live drum and bass loops. Realistic also plays all styles of modern groove music: Afro-Cuban, hip-hop, trip-hop, jungle, house and ambient. In addition, the ensemble performs with a wide range of guest artists from cutting edge DJs to West African Talking Drummers, as well as the best horn and keyboard players in the Bay Area.
Realistic was formed in 1998 and currently performs in San Francisco and beyond. Together their performance and recording credits are to numerous to list but include work with Carlos Santana, Nelly Furtado, Bobby McFerrin, The Specials, Eric Lindell, Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus, and many more.
